It seems to be required in English courses over here. That said, I don't think we read the Heaney translation. Beowulf is Mr T ... lol. The style reminded you of Tolkien?! Shouldn't it be the other way around?! And yes, in class we discussed the God thing.

As for the film ... I think the animation looks goofy and I still haven't seen the version I'd much prefer to watch, the one filmed in Iceland with Gerard Butler and Stellan Skarsgaard.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13336104.post-17336758804432892952007-11-17T13:22:00.000+00:002007-11-17T13:22:00.000+00:00Ray Winstone, "I'm here to kill yer monster, guv'n...Ray Winstone, "I'm here to kill yer monster, guv'nor. I mean, what happens to Mrs Grendel? This sort of lacuna INVITES the fan fiction!

And a medieval Jean-Claude VD... That IS Ray Winstone, isn't it?

IZP: I have no idea of what you are talking. Just like the car that isn't on the horizon as Frodo and Sam leave the Shire, that error never will, does or did exist.

Jonathan: Obligatory cat posts will return. And probably before I get to the Fall of the King, which is still part of the stalagmite of reading.0tralalahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06818587472660040921noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13336104.post-32813730065600900442007-11-14T09:12:00.000+00:002007-11-14T09:12:00.000+00:00Can I just say how bloody marvellous is to trawl t...Can I just say how bloody marvellous is to trawl through the day's blogs and find someone talking about Beowulf? Look on it as John Peel novelisation of a Hartnell story shoe-horning refereneces to things that haven't happened yet to try and make it all acceptable to the kidz.

I'm not convinced you'd didn't just type Boewulf before by mistake and reckon you have just knocked this post up in a lunch break to cover up.IZPhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06195339591797829458noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13336104.post-47870056742016468102007-11-13T19:46:00.000+00:002007-11-13T19:46:00.000+00:00I can't say I've looked that hard, but I've never ...I can't say I've looked that hard, but I've never really seen anything to convince me that 'Beowulf' is anything more than a medieval Jean-Claude Van Damme movie. My only attempt to read it gave up after about the first three hours of characters talking about blood and mayhem without actually dishing much out.

Still, at least it's only a legend, so they can't fuck it up as much as QE1. If the Armada had all been torpedoed by U-571, at least we could have seen the irony.Rob Stradlinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02622504337859973159noreply@blogger.com
